Does a Rear Type 3 Wiring Harness Fit in a T34?

A new T34 wiring harness isn’t available. Here is what happened when I put a Type 3 rear reproduction harness inside my ’63 T34.

The Type 3 harness I installed was a reproduction main harness purchased on ebay from ISP West. It was labeled as a ’63 to ’67 harness for a Type 3 and was manufactured by Wiring Works (a Southern California business).

After an afternoon of installation I have noted the following:

1) the wiring for the rear license plates lights will have to be extended

2) no provision is made for the rear trunk light

3) the wires that protrude into the battery and voltage regulator area are not long enough and will have to be extended 24 inches. Some wires require less extension but two feet is a safe measurement to work from.(see below photo)

4) some of the wires under the front dash appear to be short and might have to be extended. (see below photo… it was taken upside down underneath the dash)

5) The wires in the engine compartment were long enough! The wire to the coil had very little slack. If you have the style of engine where the coil is in another location you will definitely have to entend it. (see below photo)

In my opinion these are not deal breakers and can be worked through to have an operational T34.

More later as I go through my restoration

Paul
