It was built on November 20 1961, finished in solid black as in the early brochure for the car. It was delivered on November 27 1961 to Skandinavisk Motor Co, Kobenhavn, Denmark. The original owner bought it in December that year and exported it to South Africa where he was presumably living. He retained it until 1999. By the time I bought it it was de-registered and classified as scrap. It has undergone a full body restoration using panels salvaged from other cars, repro outer sills and hand manufactured inner, middle sills and various parts. I have rebuilt all of the mechanics and the upholstery is complete using a replacement upholstery set kindly sourced by Lee Hedges. The Registry, Samba and e-bay have made soucing many of the difficult to dind early parts far easier. Preparation for painting of the body is now underway and with luck the body will be back with me during April. The only parts still to be sourced are a pair of good roof gutter trims, I still need to get a set of carpets manufactured to fit a 62 but have a supplier in Germany identifed who can do this. Posts from here on should hopefully be around the reassembly of the car.
