Hi All,

Having found the spare wheel well through here, I will try my luck again... Cool

What wasn't included with the well, was the rubber seal to go between the well and the body (part no is 343 805 761 is I read the parts list correctly). I'm guessing this will be really impossible to find, but there is this guy in Holland who says he can make all sorts of seals if he knows the length and has a cross section. Might be worth a try. Does anyone have a pic of this seal or knows what the cross section looks like and how long the seal is?

Thanks in advance,

Remco

By the way...i'm trying to add my car to the database, but I keep getting this message about an sql-error. Any tips here too?

I saved the (compressed) spare tire well seal from my 1965. I took photos of it and shared them with this forum (somewhere). I'm traveling now and don't have the image handy. But measuring the seal space should not be a problem for a fabric yardstick. The profile is a triangle with two equal sides and one longer side. It is a hardened-foam (light sand color) with a soft inner foam.

Here's the spare tire well seal profile, taken off a 1965:
Looks like the width is about 5/8" but I don't know the length.
I'll buy two from you when the repro is finished.

Hi Lee,

Thanks for the pic, I will forward it.

How does this attach to the car? I was expecting some sort of U-profile

Regards,

Remco

Here's a pic of an NOS one fitted into the area prior to the spare tire well being installed, from Paul Colbert's Anthracite 1963 M343.
Looks like the flat side of the seal (long side) faces outward.

If you are able to find the right stuff, I would buy a couple of these seals, as well.

In profile, the shape of the seal is basically a quarter circle. The thing that makes the seal very unique is that it is an open cell sponge rubber center encased in a smooth closed cell rubber cover. Keeps the water out of this very rust susceptable front trunk area.

Unfortunately... no repro. Cry

I received a sample last week, but this was square in profile and quite though in structure although the core is made up of this spongy material.

Apparenty it is not possible to make it triangular shaped. If you're still interested in the square shaped, let me know, I can send a sample over.
