well I got my certificate from the VW Museum - took approx 7-8 weeks, but it was worth it to find out what was original on the car - Cherry Red paint with Toga White roof - confirmed the paint I had was original. Optional extras, white wall tyres and twin reverse lamps. Was perplexed however to find that country of destination was "Tourists Europe" not the Australien that I was expecting! Has anyone come across this before? I'm asumming it means that the original owner ordered it directly from VW rather than through a dealer here in Australia... The certificate also has MPH speedometer, and LH traffic headlamps as optional extras rather than standard - was this the norm to have them listed as such?
Build date was 19 May 1969 so looks like it is definitely one of the youngest on the road!!!

Can you share the certificate with us please?
Tourist Delivery was when a buyer came to Germany to collect the T34, drive it around Europe on vacation, and then have it transported back home.

Thanks for sharing the certificate, Ed.
Your 1969 M344 is the 15th youngest T34 worldwide as per the Registry database I maintain.
The RHD T34 with LHD headlight lense option can be explained by the local country laws in Europe that require RHD cars to be fitted with LHD lenses (to keep the headlight beams from shining into oncoming traffic. The lenses have a triangle that points away from the direction of oncoming traffic. Finding RHD lenses is a real chore. Is your T34 fitted with these now or are the LHD lenses still in-place? If I had to guess I'd say your Tourist took delivery of the RHD T34 and had the MPH speedo & LHD lenses fitted to drive in the European country for some time, then returned to Australia with the T34. Interestingly, two-toned paint schemes were an optional extra for late-model T34s and the birth certificate likely would have had the Toga White roof listed as an option, and since it doesn't it's more likely that the white roof was added by an owner at some point.

Ah but it does have the Toga White roof option listed, at the very bottom of the certificate alongside the RHD option. It seemed odd to have these options listed separately.

Ah, my mistake. I didn't scroll-down the image to the bottom (missed it). Good to know it's fully documented!
